12 Mar Day 3 Berlin

“Just dont lose yourself”, says Mummy.

Oh yea, I got lost yesterday night and walked around the area for One Hour. That’s great exercise in e chilly night indeed!

My whole neighbourhood is lined with many streets and big looming houses. It’s somewhat like the Bukit Timah area back in Singapore and it is a zig zag path to my hostel frm the station.

At 9pm, I exited the s-bahn station and started down one street..Hmm, this looks right..No, the houses werent so huge this morning…hey! There is a church here?..so if i retrace the zig zag path, i should turn left..no, turn right?…eh, I hav nv seen this streetname before!

Yes, i am lost. I decided to ask for directions and was lucky to meet a couple who was parking their car*. Fortunately, the man spoke english**.

I asked politely, “entshuldigung, how do I get to Eichkamp?”

“What are u saying? This whole area IS eichkamp! what is the name of yr street?”

Alright, he got me. I realised I do not know my address. I’m a champion.

Shaking his head, he directed me back to the s-bahn station. I had two options at the station - to take one stop back and walk a long but clear route back to hostel or continue my search for the right zig zag (much) shorter zigzag path. Being the stubborn idiot, I chose the latter and went trekking again.

Soon, i found myself at a highway and no signs of any familiar houses along the streets***

So I whipped out my E71 and went to Google Maps to map my location. Yes, I used GPRS in a land 1200 miles away from singapore. I think Singtel telco provider loves me for the revenue I am generating.

I found myself (very) very far away from my intended destination. And if i continue heading the direction, I will be moving away frm my neighbourhood and towards I-dont-know-where. Gee, technology is a boon.

I trudged back and finally reached my hostel. Race**** completed!

Entry fee: 1hr and 10bucks for 2min of GPRS (im guessing).

Prize: A lesson well taught.

*their house is huge.
**”I’ve been to singapore, twice!” the man proudly exclaimed. “Even berlin is bigger than Beijing, I know cause I have been there”.Interesting convo huh.
***Yea, I noticed the houses along the street and not the names of the streets that leads to my hostel. Well done.
****Racing again time and the weather. Gosh, it was super cold to be stuck outside for such a long time.
